Reflections of the Times

Here is a page where people can share their thoughts on the situation we currently find ourselves in. If you would like to add to this page, please email You can remain anonymous if you wish.

The library has been closed since March 16. This whole experience has a surreal quality to me. When I look out the window, the world seems normal. When I go to the grocery store, it seems apocalyptic. When I go to the library to check on the fish, it seems frozen in time, abandoned. It breaks my heart every time I have to walk out the door leaving the library shuttered in darkness, waiting for life to start again.

This situation has made one thing very clear to me, something until now I have always taken for granted, a library is not a structure or its contents, not a building or a book. A library is the people who use it, the community it serves. Our mission to be a “community center for all” is not a mission, it is a definition of the Topsham Public Library. Without you, there is no library, just a cold dark building.

We miss you all and look forward to getting back to the business of being your library!  Be well!!  Cyndi
