    Tween Reads

    Do you like to read books? Do you like to eat pizza? Join Tween Reads! Tween Reads is a book discussion group for grades 6-8. We supply the books and the pizza, you bring your opinions! Tween Reads is held on the second Thursday of the month at 5 pm from October through May.  Must be registered to attend.

    Magic the Gathering (MtG) Board Game

    Join teens 13+ for Arena of the Planeswalkers.  This dice-chucking tactical combat game inspired by Magic: The Gathering card game, requires no MtG cards. Before your squad is summoned, you choose a good Planeswalker, one color of mana, and use setup your 12 spell cards before navigating the different MtG Multiverse planes. Your squad determines combat based on your dice throw. We’ll see who has the best “squad stats card.” And “yes,” there will be MtG vibes and mini figures of course!

    Eras Tour Dance Party (all ages)

    Join us for a Tay Tay dance party. Taylor Swift dance videos will be streaming on the big screen. There will be friendship bracelets, Swiftie buttons, and Tay Tay inspired snacks. There will also be three “Best Dressed” awards for the most creative Swiftie inspired attire (Adult, Teen and Child).

    Music in March:: Jud Caswell

    Join us for an afternoon of festive Irish music with Topsham songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jud Caswell. Jud is a veteran of years performing in Irish pubs, and will entertain you with songs and tunes from the comic to the tragic, accompanied by guitar, cittern, banjo, tin whistle and the bodhran (Irish drum.)

    The 2nd Chance UKE Band has been performing for Maine audiences over the past 3 years. Our music covers many music genres with songs and performances for the entire family. Weall love to play the ukulele and our 6 member band always adds a beautiful array of Hawaiian music to our shows. Everyone smiles when they hear a UKE played and we know we will bring that smile and joy to you!

    Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust: CREA Speaker Series

    Join us as we learn about the perspectives of young Changemakers with Sulwan Ahmed and Ray Mills. Sulwan (she/her) is a first-generation Sudanese-American refugee in Portland, ME whose passion for environmental justice is deeply connected to her identity as a displaced person. Ray (she/they) is a Wabanaki and Franco-American woman from Oxford County, ME whose passion for the environment stems from the lessons she learned from her family about maintaining a reciprocal relationship with the land.

     During this conversation, we will explore how two people from such different backgrounds have found themselves working together as Changemakers Residents for The Nature Conservancy in Maine and the Maine Environmental Education AssociationThis residency program aims to address career gaps in environmental organizations by providing two-year residency positions for people who self-identify as coming from a background underrepresented in the sector. We will explore how our current relationships with the land are influenced by our pasts and how we are all connected through the soil beneath our feet."

    Friends of the Topsham Public Library Meeting

    Started in 1998, The Friends of the Topsham Public Library is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to supporting the Topsham Public Library. The Friends value the Topsham Public Library as a cultural, educational and recreational center and contribute time, effort, and resources to further develop the library’s potential as a dynamic force in our community. The Friends augment the library budget through fundraising to finance virtually all library programs and events. Annual membership, donations, and patronage of the annual book sale strengthens the Topsham Public Library and ensures the continued growth of Library services. All meetings are open to the public. New members are always welcome.

    Dwayne Tomah: The Doctrine of Discovery from the Indigenous Perspective

    Dr. Tomah will give a talk on the doctrine that legitimized the colonizationof indigenous lands and its profound effect on native peoples, from theperspective of those who have suffered under it. He is a languagekeeper, director and curator of the Sipayik Museum, and teacher of thePassamaquoddy language and culture. 

    About the author:  

    A language keeper, Tomah is the director and curator of the Sipayik Museum. A teacher of the Passamaquoddy Tribe, he has served on the tribal council. In 2024 he received an honorary doctorate degree from Colby College. 

    Dwayne Tomah is currently working with the Library of Congress on translating the Passamaquoddy wax cylinders. They are the first recordings in the world of Native languages and were recorded in 1890 by Jesse Fewkes, who borrowed the device from inventor Thomas Edison. Tomah has also been involved in repatriation and the Land Back movement to share historical truth regarding the Doctrine of Discovery from the Indigenous perspective.
